What a great way to close off another year of giving! Our Charity of Choice for November 2018 is University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) – Women in STEM program. The Board of Governors Matching Fund will match our donation, which means at least two scholarships will come out of our contribution and this happened the day they launched their program!

Jane Carter Board Member of Bereaved Families of Durham Region joined us to share how our donation of $6,100 has helped make their new offices accessible to all family members by installing automatic door openers on the two front doors.  The other half of our donation is going towards the development of a new sibling support program, a program that is greatly needed. Charity of Choice from May 8th Simcoe Hall Settlement House Dianne Zarobiak, Board Member joined us to share how our donation of $7,100 has helped to support their Sun Fun Camp program. Our contribution helped children experience the joys of summer camp, exploring and learning in our community with days trips across the region. View presentation

That’s a wrap ladies, our 2nd meeting of 2018 is in the books and what a memorable evening it was!

All are worthwhile charities, and we would love to give the money to all. However, the members voted, and the WINNING charity is Simcoe Hall Settlement House.

In addition to the funds raised that evening, fellow 100WomenAPW members Sue and Christine are also members of Pickering Racquetball Club held a fundraiser and added $1,1100 to our total donation for Simcoe Hall! Now that is the #ThePowerof100 in action!

Unfortunately Victoria Kehoe from Destress Centre Durham our Charity of Choice for Nov 2017, was unable to join us due to illness. She sent a message to share with the members. “Pass our thanks to group and let them know the donation has been used to help us recruit and train 10 more online responder volunteers who will answer text and chat requests from youth who are struggling with suicidal thoughts. We believe this will ultimately help save lives! We couldn’t be more appreciative.’ Victoria

Oh what a night!  Our 4th and final meeting of 100 Women Who Care Ajax | Pickering | Whitby for 2017 was exciting!

To start off the night we heard from Dianne Mackenzie from Epilepsy Durham our Charity of Choice for August about how our donation impacted their programs, specifically the “Why We Care Program”. View presentation.
