Charity of Choice May 2019
2019 Annual Sponsors
Together we gathered for a night of giving, on Wednesday, August 21st our 3rd meeting of 2019!
This time around, we were hosted and treated to a beautiful spread by our new Chapter Sponsors Revera Westney Gardens. An incredibly beautiful facility, bright and spacious with attention to detail at every turn.
Our Charity of Choice for May 2019 was the Humane Society of Durham Region. Since the end of May, HSDR has taken in 238 animals at a cost total cost of $34,000 to $69,000 to cover exams and medical treatment. HSDR doesn’t receive government funding and is the only shelter in Durham Region. Consider donating your time and volunteering to this fantastic organization.
We heard from three impactful charities, two of which were new! Keep those nominations coming ladies, use #ThePowerof100 to nominate a charity today!
We are always excited to learn more about programs that serve our community and how we can give back:
1. Joannes House – Durham Youth Housing and Support Services
Speaker Executive Director Adrianna Vanderneut
2. Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, Ontario Chapter
Speaker: Jane Fitzpatrick and Alexandra Vrzovski
3. Feed the Need in Durham
Speaker Ben Earle, Executive Director, and Vicki Derusha, Operations Coordinator
And the WINNING charity is …. Joannes House.
A big #100WomenAPW thank you to youth ambassador Sultan, for sharing your story of perseverance and strength. Such an inspiration!
Joannes House offers shelter, transitional housing, and school programs for homeless youth. After serving over 400 youth last year, they decided to make a shift, focusing their programs on prevention. Ending youth homelessness requires school and community-based prevention and intervention strategies. DYHSS works with families and community members to provide support to any young person in need.
Visit their Facebook page, give them a “LIKE” and help spread the word about the critical work they are doing in our community.
Our goal for this year is BIG, but together we can achieve it:
100+ members (we aren’t far off with a current total of 75!)
The more members, the more significant the impact in the community, we have the potential to raise and donate over $40,000+ annually all while meeting new people, learning and connecting with charities that serve Durham Region.#LocalWomenLocalImpact
A big thank you to the evening’s showcase exhibitors, the fee they pay to join us goes towards any expenses we incur.. Not to mention they have some beautiful and delicious treasures! Shop local ladies!
