Charity of Choice February 2020
2019 Annual Sponsors
Venue Sponsor
We gathered for our 1st quarter meeting last Wednesday, February 5th, at the gorgeous design gallery LEV2. Two years ago, owner Alexis Kofman, bought a mill working company, falling in love with the creativity of the boys in the back who’s craft is second to none. She came up with a vision of community and collaboration, reaching out to Durham Region’s most prominent interior designers, giving them space and no budget to design with our cabinetry. The 5,800 sq ft gallery showcases the latest design trends and whole-home solutions. Open to designers from across the region; the gallery is used for consultations, inspiration and client engagement. This design Center is open through the week and Saturdays limited hours. Our Charity of Choice for November 2019 was the Autism Homebase Durham. Autism Homebase is a family network that has 165 members; all of the kids are over the age of 18 from Durham Region and 14 new families from Peterborough. About eight years, they banded together as families to start this charity, organizing social and recreational programs through the Durham Region. Helping to combat the social isolation that families experience.
In partnership with the municipality of Clarington secured program space after eight years of being homeless, just after our meeting, they just moved into a 3,500 square foot space! Currently, they are running a drop-in centre four days a week plus programs evenings and weekends.
Our collective donation helped purchase furniture for the new location, chairs, desks, and a TV. The families have been busy cleaning and painting, setting it up to feel like home, creating a safe and welcoming space to enjoy together.

And the WINNING charity is …. Children’s Wish Foundation Ontario Chapter!
Children’s Wish Foundation is across Canada, granting wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses. The impact of a wish is massive and lasts a lifetime. Many years later, it still impacts a family. A doctor from sick kids who sits on the board says, “the best Prescription he can write is a wish” things change quickly for which children when they start planning their wish.
Twenty-one years ago, the Children’s Wish Foundation came into Stephanie’s life when at seven years old — diagnosed with a brain tumour called a craniopharyngioma. A rare brain tumour that typically affects children between the ages of 5 and 14 that grows near the pituitary gland at the base of the brain.

Our goal for this year is BIG, but together we can achieve it:
100+ members (we aren’t far off with a current total of 91!)
The more members, the more significant the impact in the community, we have the potential to raise and donate over $40,000+ annually all while meeting new people, learning and connecting with charities that serve Durham Region.#LocalWomenLocalImpact
