Joannes House
The Region of Durham is working with other social service agencies and faith based organizations to open a space at the Ajax Community Centre for people to have a shower, a meal, get clean clothes, access WIFI and get screened for COVID if needed.
They are also opening a secondary site in North Oshawa as an overflow space in the event that the three emergency shelters are full.
Both spaces are in need of:
– Hygiene kits
– Clothing (all ages, genders)
– Towels
– Games
– Puzzles
– Craft supplies
– Nail clippers
– Hair brushes
– Hair elastics
– Razors (male, female)
– Bandaids
– Lip chap
– Moisturizer
– Body wash (bars of soap are too difficult to carry around while homeless as the stay wet and mushy without a case)
– Full size shampoos and conditioners
– Shaving cream
– Tweezers
– Toothbrushes
– Toothpaste
– Cell phone chargers
The ACC facility will also need some place and some volunteers to pick up the used towels, wash them and return them. I’m not sure if you know anyone who can help with this.
Supporting homeless individuals, youth, families and children will be a community effort during this time.
Any support is greatly appreciated.
If anyone is able to help they can contact Adrianna directly by email adrianna.vanderneut@durhamyouth.com
