FAQ

Does the meeting really take only one hour?

Here’s how the meetings are structured.  Meetings start at 6:45 p.m. with registration, sponsored finger foods/snacks and networking taking place until 7:30.  (If you want, you can arrive at 7:30 and skip the networking portion.)  At the start of the meeting, we’ll hear from the previous winning charity about what the funds they received have been/will be used for in the Durham region. The meeting runs until approximately 8:30, during which time, members will complete their nomination forms, resulting in the selection of three charities.  The nominating members will make presentations on behalf of the charity they nominated.  All members will vote, then write their cheques directly to the winning charity.  Members are invited to continue networking following the meeting if they wish.

$100 a quarter is more than I can afford but I want to participate. How else can I do that?

We understand that in these difficult financial times it may be hard to participate in charitable giving on your own; however, joining with a team allows you to split the cost and time commitment among teammates and creating community with coworkers, friends or like-minded peers.

To sign-up as a team, both members must complete Membership Commitment Form where they will indicate how the $100 donation will be distributed between them. There is a maximum of 2 people allowed on one team.

As a team you are allowed one vote, but both of you can attend meetings. Should your nomination be selected, only one of your team can speak to represent the nominated charity.

Can I (or my company) sponsor a meeting?

Yes.  Our sponsors are so very important to us and the success of our members and group.  If you are able to get more involved, we’d love to sit down and discuss how.  As an added benefit, sponsor are featured on our website and social media, given recognition at the meeting and acknowledged at the final meeting of the year.

The charity I nominated didn’t win this time.  Can they be nominated again?

Yes.  Although we restrict the winning charity from being nominated again for a full calendar year, charities can be nominated over again until they are successful.

Do I get a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes, absolutely.  You will receive a tax receipt for the full amount from the winning charity within approximately two to three weeks of the meeting.

A friend of mine is interested in joining but wants to see what it’s all about in person. Can I bring her?

Guests of a committed member are welcome to attend one meeting, after which time we’d be happy to see them become a member themselves.  Guests can donate to the selected charity even if they are not yet a member.

How is the organization that receives the group donation chosen at each meeting?

A member who has signed the Membership Commitment Form can submit the name of a local organization using the Charity Nomination Form. At random, three organizations will be selected at the meeting. The nominating members will be asked to give a short, five-minute presentation as to why the organization they are nominating should receive the donation and then spend about two minutes for

When and how do I submit my completed Charity Nomination Form

There are two ways you can do this.  First, once your form is complete, email it to info@100womenwhocareapw.ca. Should you run short of time, we will accept completed forms up to 7:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

Which organizations are eligible for consideration?

In order to be considered for nomination, an organization must be based in the Durham region and serve the Ajax-Whitby community and must be a government registered, not-for-profit or charitable organization that is able to provide tax receipts for donations. We do not consider national or international charities, programs or organizations.

A charity can be nominated at each meeting as long as it has not been a recipient of the group’s donation in the past year.

What if I am unable to attend a meeting?

If a Member cannot attend a meeting she can do one of two things:

She can send in a blank, signed cheque with a friend or another member to the meeting (preferred). The surrogate member will then write in the name of the charity that is chosen on the cheque and give it to the Founders on her behalf. A friend acting as a surrogate member may not vote on behalf of the absent member.
She can contact info@100womenwhocareapw.ca and arrange to deliver her signed cheque.

Can I just send the donation to the charity myself?

No, because the goal of 100 Women Who Care Durham Region is to make a large donation on behalf of the whole group. We want to be able to support this endeavour and potentially give $10,000 (or more) at one time to make a large impact in our community – with each member’s donation being part of the larger donation. This is the power of individuals united for a cause! We also need to be able to track your donations so that you get credit for the donation and remain an active, voting-eligible member of the group.

How much of my donation goes to administrative costs of 100 Women Who Care Ajax-Whitby?

None of it! 100 Women Who Care Durham Region is organized and operated by a volunteer team of women.  100% of the money raised at our meetings goes directly to the selected organization!

What will you be using the information I completed on the Membership Form for?

100 Women Who Care Durham Region collects a minimal amount of information from members.  This information includes your name, address and email address and is used strictly for the purpose of maintaining our membership list and assisting charitable organizations to send out accurate individual tax receipts.

100 Women Who Care Ajax-Whitby will not sell, give or otherwise share your personal information without your express consent, unless required by law, with any organization.

Will my name or company name or picture be used in any way?

We’d like to think you are proud of your contribution and might ask you if we can include your name and picture in our promotional and/or social media from time to time.  We definitely would not use this information without your consent.
